
Anne Elizabeth McGowin, Attorney
Anne Elizabeth earned her BA from the University of Alabama and her JD from Cumberland School of Law. She has practiced in numerous legal and management positions in the private, institution and public settings. She combined her professional and personal experiences and formed Senior Law Solutions, LLC in 2017. SLS strives to make a difference in the lives of all the people they serve focusing on dignity and quality of life and care.
Legal memberships:
Anne Elizabeth is a member of Life Care Planning Law Firms Association* and has served on Membership and Marketing Committee. She is also a member of National Association of Elder Law and Special Needs Attorneys “NAELA”. Her NAELA contributions included: State Chapter Advocacy Committee. She is also a member of the Academy of Special Needs Planners; Montgomery Estate Planning Council (currently serves on the Board), Elder law division of the Alabama Bar Association, American Bar Association, Elder Counsel and Wealth Counsel and is a Fellow with the Alabama Law Institute. Anne Elizabeth also earned the designation as a Certified Senior Advisor and is VA certified.
Legal experience:
Anne Elizabeth's private law practice included two health care law firms in Birmingham and Montgomery. She then accepted a position as General Counsel of Jackson Hospital and served there for nine years. Additionally, she created the hospital’s corporate compliance program, served as risk manager and senior administrative staff member.
In 2003, Anne Elizabeth accepted a position as a deputy attorney general for the department of Finance. She continued to work in state government for numerous finance directors and governors serving in many legal and management roles including: Deputy Finance Director, Assistant Finance Director (created and managed the SMART planning and budgeting program for all state agencies and institutions), Alabama Recovery Coordinator, Governor’s Chief Deputy Legal Advisor and Governor’s Acting Legal Advisor.
In 2013, Anne Elizabeth began her tenure as the Assistant General Counsel of Medicaid. While there she represented the agency in public hearings, reviewed trusts, assisted program integrity and addressed medical necessity and HIPAA issues. She ended her public career in the Department of Transportation serving as an Assistant Counsel and defending the agency on property, employment, environmental and other legal issues.
In 2017, she formed Senior Law Solutions, LLC, an elder law and life care planning firm. Life Care Planning is a holistic approach assisting families with legal and health care planning. Both healthy families and those with challenges benefit from Life Care Planning.
Personal/Community Involvement:
On the personal side, Anne Elizabeth is married to Bill McGowin and they have two daughters a dog and a cat. Anne Elizabeth enjoys community activities in Montgomery and Alexander City. She is an active member of the Montgomery Sunrise Rotary Club and has served in many roles including the Chair of the C2SA fundraiser, past president and the Rotary Board. She also served on the Board for Respite For All Foundation, a respite ministry for caregivers and people affected with dementia. Anne Elizabeth also trained to be Alzheimer’s Association Community Speaker. She was also a member of the BNI chapter.
Volunteering with church has always been a passion of Anne Elizabeth’s. Her family was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Montgomery, AL for more than 30 years. As a member there, she has served in many roles including the Vestry, Stewardship campaigns, Cursillo, taught Sunday School/Confirmation for 30 years and completed the Education for Ministry course designed by Sewanee University.
Currently, she and her husband are active members of St. James Episcopal Church in Alexander City where they live. She is a member of the Vestry at St. James and volunteers at the church.
